Keynote Speaker:
REV. FR. DANUT SUCIU
- St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church San Antonio, TX

Rev. Fr. Danut Suciu came to St. Sophia from Transfiguration Church in Ogden, Utah, where he served for 4 years. He prefers to be called "Father Dan" and his last name is correctly pronounced "SU-chu."

With him is his family, Presbytera Delia and children: Sylvia, age 20, and Christophor, age 16, Sylvia attends Trinity University, and Christophor attends Reagan High School. Fr. Dan and his son are avid tennis players, and Christophor is nationally ranked in his age group. At age 10 he played while living in Amarillo at the Junior Olympics. Fr. Dan has an amateur ability-level of 4/5 (out of a possible 6).

Fr. Dan is well known in the Denver Diocese and the wider Orthodox community as a speaker and a leader of religious retreats. His recorded talks can be heard in cities (such as Dallas) that provide the Christian Radio network.

Both Father Dan and Presbytera Delia were born in Romania and were raised in the central part of the country in Dumbraveni, near the city of Sibiu. Fr. Dan was graduated from the Theological Institute in Sibiu. He began Doctorate classes at the Theological Institute in Bucharest and came to Princeton Theological Seminary in 1981 to continue this work. Fr. Dan was ordained as a Deacon in 1982 in Sibiu and as a Priest in 1983. Presvytera Delia has a Master's degree in Agronomy from the University of Bucharest (but she has never worked in agronomy). Her talents include iconography, and necessity once required her to paint ikons for a mission location.

In 1984 the couple emigrated to Canada to escape the effects of the repressive Ceaucescu dictatorship and to gain full religious freedom. Both children were born in Canada. Fr. Dan's ministry career includes 10 years serving Romanian Orthodox churches in Canada, 3 years Antiochian Orthodox parishes in the U.S.A., and recently 8 years in Greek Orthodox parishes (including Ogden) in this country.
